Trinidadian Soca Star Olatunji Yearwood auditioned for X Factor on Sunday 1st September 2018, it is not surprising he had the judges and audience rocking with excitement and has gone onto the next round of the program.
Any Caribbean person who is in tune with Soca would not be surprised as he made a sizable professional mark on the Soca scene in 2013 with his single “Bam Bam” however he has sung long before that since he was 16 years of age placing honourably in various competitions in 2002 and most notably wining National Junior Calypso Monarch Competition in 2003 along with various accolades and other competitions.
Another notable addition to his career was in 2015 he went on to win the International Groovy Soca Monarch competition in 2015 with “Ola” which was also a recognizable hit during the 2015 carnival season.
Naturally all successful Soca Artists are creatives and entertainers so his infusion of Swing music and Soca is not surprising ft and is especially not Surprising for Mr. Yearwood as he seems to specialize in mixing musical genres from Salsa to Afro-Beat and to Swing. His first offering on the show is of his own composition and was his Soca single for Carnival 2018.
Cheers to Olatunji and for us, you ARE already an established Star and an international figure, no matter what the outcome in the future!
