Various Trinidad and Tobago News outlets have reported that when speaking to Promoters and Mas Band Leaders, Carnival is not happening.
Given the massive delay in the announcement of Trinidad Carnival 2022 there is no way that carnival 2022 can be held given the customary preparation needed which takes months.
THE ISSUE
Carnival productions like most grand spectacles of entertainment takes months of preparation and the announcement by the Trinidad and Tobago Government in the 90th hour maybe a little too late.
Seems like major stakeholders were not fully informed of the final decision or fully consulted, at what point would they need to be ready.
So pre-COVID-19 Carnival preparation would take months to be ready now post COVID-19 with added restrictions the Carnival fraternity is not having it given that the government gave the green light on the 19th January 2022 while Carnival is held in Trinidad and Tobago mid to late February generally.
Naturally, some promoters my try to have events, however it seems as if it will be a quiet Carnival 2022 despite the green light.
THE GOVERNMENT’S RESPONSE
The government finds this to be a big misunderstanding, what they said is that Carnival 2022 will be “a taste of carnival”.
